REAL ESTATE AGENT ADVERTISING · 50 STATES + WASHINGTON, DC
Check the rules before you share.
Choose the state where you are licensed and will advertise. Review the required identity, contact information and layout with your responsible broker before publishing a page or using a graphic.
Official sources reviewed October 16, 2026. These summaries cover general agent advertising. They are a checklist for review, not a certification that a template or advertisement complies.
Check the complete advertisement
- Use your licensed name and your brokerage’s licensed name. Confirm any trade name, team name or logo is permitted.
- Check required license numbers, office phone or address, license-status wording, and the size and placement of the brokerage’s identity.
- Review the actual medium: a website, social post, small graphic, sign and print handout can have different rules. A website link does not automatically replace information required on the advertisement itself.
- Check property authorization, truthful claims, fair housing, company policies and other applicable requirements separately.
Mortgage advertising is a separate review. NMLS, company identifiers and lending disclosures are not covered by this real estate agent checklist.
California’s brokerage-number exception applies only in qualifying agent advertisements with the required agent and brokerage identification. Team names, salesperson-owned fictitious names and brokerage-only ads can have different requirements. Other states do not inherit California’s exception.
Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands have not been reviewed in this checklist.
